This quote was just released in a piece from the Associated Press:
“Jews “know from experience what it means to be victims of collective violence and also because of this they are quick to recognize the recurring symptoms,” said Cantalamessa, a Franciscan priest.”
Hmmm, where to begin? Let’s start with the obvious. Yes, Jews do know from experience what it means to be victims of collective violence. Let’s break this statement down now. The key word in this sentence is “victims”. What is the definition of the word “victim”?
Well Dictionary.com says:
1. a person who suffers from a destructive or injurious action or agency: a victim of an automobile accident.
2. a person who is deceived or cheated, as by his or her own emotions or ignorance, by the dishonesty of others, or by some impersonal agency: a victim of misplaced confidence; the victim of a swindler; a victim of an optical illusion.
3. a person or animal sacrificed or regarded as sacrificed: war victims.
4. a living creature sacrificed in religious rites.
Well, definition number one and three certainly do pertain to the historic plight of the Jewish people. I really don’t see how any of these definitions pertain to the Catholic hierarchy though. Wait. Lets look at definition number four. Hmmm, “a living creature sacrificed in religious rites.” Now this one looks like it could work for the Catholic church…but wait, I think it works better for all the children who have been forcibly raped by leaders of the Catholic church. Yeah, I think it works better in that context.
Sorry Father Cantalamessa, but nice try! Your arrogance is astounding. How dare you compare your vaunted child raping hierarchy and willful cover up by participating leaders to war ravaged, holocaust-surviving Jews. You have now compounded the ignorance and arrogance, once only believed to have existed within the Catholic church. What type of megalomaniacal mind could possibly try to spin victimhood for the Catholic church?
